Due to COVID-19, it will not be necessary to come in person to the Inspections Department to obtain permits. You may complete the application located on our website HERE and email it to After your permit has been received and approved by the inspector, we will email it back to you for a signature and then please return to us for our records. Payment can be made via phone to the cashier's office at (423)585-4607.

The Building Inspections Department of the City of Morristown is responsible for construction and building codes enforcement activities in the City. Department personnel includes three licensed building inspectors and support staff. Two inspectors are licensed plumbing and mechanical inspectors and one is a licensed electrical inspector. The major activities of the department are building plans review, issuance of building permits, and on-site inspections to ensure compliance of all construction projects with City regulations. The department interprets various city codes, investigates substandard housing, and enforces building regulations adopted by the city.

Generally, inspectors may be reached in the office from 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. each business day or by appointment.
