Sgt. Stansell Receives Award

Major Thigpen Sgt Stansell Senior KingMorristown Police Department Sergeant Travis Stansell has been awarded the Inaugural Leadership Legacy Award.  He was surprised during a ceremony for the Morristown-Hamblen Air Force JROTC on April 29, 2021.  The award is presented to members of the community who have a positive meaningful impact on the program and the community. 

Sergeant Stansell has served with the Morristown Police Department for 19 years.  He has served as a patrol officer, forensics detective and for the last seven years, he has served in Hamblen County schools as a school resource officer (SRO).  In addition to his daily duties at the schools, Sergeant Stansell serves on the Crisis Negotiations Team, Honor Guard and is a department instructor in several areas.

Major Thigpen and Senior King did present the award.  Major Thigpen stated that Sergeant Stansell was chosen as the inaugural recipient because he has had “a significant positive meaningful impact on the cadets in the program.” The award citation states “His service before self is without question; standing in the gap to ensure the safety and wellbeing of Hamblen County schools.  SGT Stansell serves as the standard of excellence for School Resource Officers.”

Once the school year ends, Sergeant Stansell will transition to patrol, due to a recent promotion. The level of service he provides to all citizens of Morristown is well recognized and the Morristown Police Department is fortunate to have personnel who serve our community with great pride as Sergeant Stansell.
