MPD Officer Receives Specialized Training

Officer WiceOfficer Andrew Wice with the Morristown Police Department traveled to New Mexico in December to receive Counter Terrorism First Responder Training.  The training was sponsored by New Mexico Tech and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).  All travel and lodging funding was provided by DHS.

The four day course focused on explosives.  The course provided first responders with the knowledge and necessary skills to safely respond to incidents involving explosives.  In addition to learning how to respond and recognize these devices, the course discussed lessons learned from past incidents.  Officer Wice’s training allows the department to be better prepared to recognize and respond to bombing threats.

Officer Wice has served with the City of Morristown as a patrolman for about five years.  In addition to his daily patrol duties, Wice is a Field Training Officer and a member of the Forensics Team.  This training is valuable for Officer Wice to be able to help collect evidence for investigation should an incident ever occur.  Other members of the Forensics Team have received some similar training during the National Forensics Academy; however, this training was focused on explosive devices only.
