MPD Welcomes Home Officer After Deployment

Officer Z. Jones MilitaryOfficer Zach Jones left Morristown to begin his training at Fort Irwin for Operation Atlantic Resolve at the end of April 2018.  In July 2018, his unit, Bravo Troop of the 278th Armored Calvary Regiment, Army National Guard was deployed to Bemowo Piskie Poland.  He resumed his duties at the Morristown Police Department (MPD) on June 5, 2019.

Officer Jones is a Morristown native.  He joined the Army National Guard in June 2012; at 18 years old.  His current rank in the Guard is a sergeant and he serves as a Combat Engineer Team Leader.  Officer Jones has been with the MPD since August 2016 working patrol.  Jones said, “I am excited to be back at work doing what I enjoy and serving the citizens of Morristown.”  While Officer Jones returned to the MPD on June 5, 2019, he has been back in the states for a few weeks enjoying time with his family and golfing.

Officer Z. JonesMorristown Police Department has had two officers deployed for the past year.  Officer Jeff Coyne is with another unit and is returning at a later time.

Morristown Police Chief Roger Overholt stated, “We are honored to be able to support our men and women who are serving in the United States Armed Forces.  I commend both Officer Jones and Coyne for their willingness to serve the citizens of our community and our Nation.”
