2017 Detective of the Year Award

2017 Detective of the Year - Hurst & BowmanTwo Morristown Police Department detectives were recognized for their outstanding performance during 2017 receiving the annual “Detective of the Year” award.  Police Chief Roger Overholt and Detective Captain Christian Newman presented Detective Phil Hurst of the Crimes Against Persons Squad and Detective Sergeant Tracey Bowman of the Crimes Against Property Squad with a certificate of achievement award for outstanding performance, as the leading investigator on their respective squads.  The presentation was held during the April 9, 2018 Investigations Division staff meeting.

Detective Phil Hurst, a veteran of 25 years with the Morristown Police Department, and Detective Sergeant Tracey Bowman, a 20 year veteran, were chosen by Investigations Division Detective Captain Christian Newman based on a variety of criteria including: Detective’s Activity, Extra Activity, Attendance, Open Case File Review, Closed Case File Review, and Peer Votes.

Both detectives’ names have been engraved on the “Top Detective” plaque housed in the Investigations Division to honor their achievements.

Chief Overholt stated, “I am proud of all our personnel and appreciate the work they do daily to keep our community safe.  I commend the efforts of Detective Hurst and Detective Sergeant Bowman.”
