MPD's Newest K-9 Handler
The newest officer of the Morristown Police Department’s K-9 Unit is Officer Blake McCarter. He was assigned to the unit in November 2015, when Corporal Pete Shockley was promoted to detective.
He has now completed the mandatory K-9 Handler’s course. He and his K-9 partner, Riot, have been assigned to a shift and are now working patrol.
Prior to his K-9 assignment, in addition to regular patrol duties, Officer McCarter was part of the Bicycle Unit, Crime Scene Team and Special Response Team. Currently, in addition to his regular patrol duties he is K-9 Officer and a member of the Special Response Team.
Riot, like other MPD K-9s, is trained for narcotic odor detection, officer protection and criminal apprehension.
